EMPOWERING FUTURE LEADERS
THROUGH CIVIC EDUCATION
The American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State is a transformative, week-long program designed to empower and educate young women on the workings of city, county, and state government. Through experiential learning, our delegates take on active roles in a mock government, forming their own political parties, campaigning, and voting in elections. They write and pass legislation, developing a deep understanding of civic duty and the democratic process.
Participants learn the true meaning of leadership, citizenship, and service. Our program instills confidence and courage, inspiring young women to pursue their goals and dreams—both personal and professional. By the end of the week, delegates walk away with newfound skills, lifelong friendships, and a clearer understanding of how to make a difference in their communities and beyond.

THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
ILLINI GIRLS STATE LEGACY
Since its inception in 1937, Girls State has been one of the most respected experiential learning programs in the United States. It reflects the American Legion Auxiliary’s mission to honor those who have secured our freedoms by nurturing the next generation of leaders. At Illini Girls State, our young women develop a deep sense of pride in our country, a robust understanding of government, and the confidence to lead with vision and conviction.
We believe in cultivating future leaders who are not only knowledgeable about the democratic process but also equipped to positively impact their communities and our nation. Our program is grounded in patriotism, service, and a commitment to developing young women into engaged, confident citizens who aren't afraid to dream big and lead boldly.
